Join me as we journey into the heart of Yellowstone in search of pronghorn, bears, wolves, elk, moose, bison, and other wildlife.

Pronghorn Yellowstone Fall Autumn Photography Workshop

Yellowstone is a magical place any time of year, but spring is baby time with bear cubs and bison calves at their cutest.

Bears have just woken up from their long winter’s nap. The cubs are born during hibernation and if we’re lucky we’ll see some cubs of the year.

The iconic American bison is not generally viewed as cute.  The calves, known as “red dogs”, however are as cute as babies anywhere!

LIMITED to just five (5) photographers.~ TWO (2) SPOTS LEFT ~

ALL-INCLUSIVE ~ SINGLE-occupancy; includes all ground transport so you don’t need a vehicle)

** We are an Authorized Permittee of the National Park Service. **

Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the lower 48 states that still has all of the wildlife species that were present when Europeans arrived.  Spring is a great time to see all of them.

We’ll journey about the park keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife activity. Bison and elk are a given. Pronghorn, bighorn sheep, coyotes and foxes are other likely subjects for our lenses.

And…if we get really lucky we may even spot a wolf, or — EVEN BETTER! — catch a pack hunting or dining on a kill (no promises, of course, but I will certainly be on the lookout!).

Plan also for some iconic landscape images including the geyser basin, Mammoth Hot Springs & Yellowstone Falls.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN ON THIS TOUR:

  • How to master manual exposure (& when it’s better than priority exposures)
  • How to capture sharp wildlife action images
  • How to create interesting wildlife portraits
  • Tips for creating “animalscapes”
  • Landscape photography composition & metering tips

A note about instruction on my photo tours:
Since skills levels vary so much on photo tours, I tailor my teaching to individual needs. Please do not be shy about telling me what you need.

ITINERARY:

PLEASE NOTE: This is an estimated schedule and we’ll do our best to stick to this itinerary, but certain conditions may necessitate changes. The best photographic experiences and the opportunities to view wildlife remain our goal at all times.

Monday, May 12, 2025
Arrive in Bozeman, where I’ll pick you up.  Please be sure to arrive by 12:00 noon as I won’t be able to make more than one trip from the airport to Gardiner, where your tour begins.  (If you miss the ride, there are shuttle services available for about $120).

Once I have everyone tucked inside our ground transport, it’s time to head to Gardiner.

After having a bit of time to get settled into your hotel room, we’ll get together for the Welcome Dinner (tentatively set for 6:00 pm).  During this first meal together, I’ll go over what to expect in the coming days.

Sleep well, nestled into your warm bed in your single-occupancy room.

OVERNIGHT:  Gardiner

Tuesday, May 13 — Friday, May 16, 2025

Wake and then “wolf” down your breakfast. Specific activities during these 4 days will depend on weather and wildlife, but the plan is to create as many wildlife images as possible.

Also plan for visits to iconic Yellowstone spots with landscape images in mind.

The days start early and end late so we’ll most likely take a break at mid-day.  Wildlife action will determine where we go in the park each day. We may spend extended time at one location if wolf activity looks promising.

OVERNIGHT:  Gardiner
